i have a 1997 mercury sable the blower motor stoped working. it had a small problem before it worked then stoped then worked again. this has happened a few times. now it stopped working again. i have replaced both fusees. i am feeling a small amount of heat coming from the vent but i have no fan speed. i am looking to replace the relay in the power dist. box under the hood. i also might change the blower switch. just not sure what to try. or does the blower moter need to be replaced. thanks for any help

First I want to warn everyone that Ford has a problem with wiring at the blower switch, worse on certain older vans and pickups, it is marginal in size for the load it is expected to carry. Worse for drivers that run there heat and AC on high, and this usually lowers the warmth, a lower speed is more efficient unless it is to defrost the windows.

Lets assume your wiring is OK to assure this check for voltage at the motor,it is behind the glove box and easy to access with the box removed. No power then go to the resistor next. I doubt if it is your relay, the most accessible part is usually not h the problem, usually this causes a loss of all speeds but high or high only. If the switch is defective they usually feel rough or noisy, it just wont feel right,
As with all electronics a good tap may help. I need a motor in my Pontiac had to give it a tap last winter, just need more time.
