A recent Email told me of a 00 Dodge Ram pickup 5.2 with 332K on the original engine. He used Amoco and Chevron 5-30 oil year round. This has many of the same advantages as synthetic as the oil is more efficient on start up but warm it has no advantages. If you do a lot of starting and stopping I would recommend 5-30, as many manufactures do now, but for highway use it may cause oil consumption on a high mileage engine. I have heard of premature bearing wear in warmer climates but have never seen it, but then I live in North Dakota.
